ILAN Rubin is no stranger to making noise – he’s been creating and assembling music since he was eight, and his array of musical talent spans across many spheres. Rubin’s intrepid journey in exploring a range of musical styles perhaps illustrates his extensive palette in his much-hyped project – The New Regime. Searing guitars, hard driving drums, piano and acoustics are what you can expect from the new album Speak Through the White Noise. After forming the band in 2007, Rubin got to work on getting The New Regime out into the mainstream – four years later and the band are currently touring the US supporting Taking Back Sunday, as well as a UK tour starting in August.
This comes after Rubin had stints drumming for Welsh rock outfit, The Lostprophets, and industrial rock pioneers, The Nine Inch Nails. It was a sort of eureka moment when working with the latter, through musician Trent Reznor, whose musical style and drive complemented his own.
“When I joined the band, I finally felt like, ‘Yes, this is the kind of organization I want to be a part of.’ A lot of work, and a lot of making everything perfect,” says Rubin of the experience.
