Harvey Nichols ‘Walk Of Shame’ Advert

Harvey Nichols ‘Walk Of Shame’ Advert

A NEW advert for Harvey Nichols attempts to turn the infamous walk of shame into the stride of pride.

For those unaware (or claiming to be unaware), the walk of shame is a stumble home in your party dress the morning after the night before, often accompanied by nothing but a sizeable hangover and panda eyes.

It’s not a good look for anyone, but Harvey Nichols has revolutionised the idea with their new Christmas video campaign. Featuring an array of women struggling to get home in uncomfortable dresses, looking a little worse for wear, it will make you laugh (and cry a little inside).

That is, until, a clean, composed, beautifully preened woman shows us how it’s done as she struts past the postman in a Roland Mouret dress and Charlotte Olympia heels without a care in the world. The perfect hair and makeup remains a mystery.

The tongue in cheek message is that Harvey Nichols has everything you need to avoid an embarrassing situation. That is if you can afford it and are a size 8 model of course, but those are just minor details.

Suggesting we shop from a range of Antipodium, Talbot Runhof and Lanvin dresses which we could swan home in loud and proud the next day; some Dr Hauschka deodorant wouldn’t go a miss either.

While this situation may be relatable to women everywhere, it’s brave if not a little daring of Harvey Nichols to use it to promote their latest ranges. Far from the traditional Christmas ads we know and love, what it does offer is a dose of realism. And we love it.

We're expecting to see plenty of ill-fitting shame on city centre streets nationwide over the next few weeks and beyond, so it won't be hard to see if the Harvey Nichols campaign has an effect. Their shoppers are very easy to spot apparently.

Love those dresses. Might have included one from One Vintage though for a bit of retro variety?

Or some Danish chic?
