So it’s August. Seems everyone I know is either on holiday, about to go on holiday or tanned and glowing because they are just back from some glorious holiday. Well, everyone except me, of course. But don’t worry, I’m not bitter (yes, I am). I guess I’ll take everyone flaking and endless emails going unanswered as a welcome reprieve (this is a lie; I don’t like reprieves). I’ve taken to sprinkling sand on my kitchen floor and wearing cheap sunscreen that smells of coconuts on the weekends to make me feel like I am on an exotic beach somewhere. It’s working brilliantly (no, it’s not).
I woke up this morning and decided that some retail therapy is the next logical step in this pretend vacation scenario. I’ll clearly be flying first class, and an eye mask and slippers are essential aeroplane accessories. I’ve actually been eyeing these from Holistic Silk for months now. The oversized eye mask is perfect for not only blocking out light, but it’ll obviously discourage the newly single George Clooney from leaning across aisle and offering to get me another glass of champagne.

If I need to stretch my legs, these simple but genius reflexology slippers are sure to do the trick. I love that they slip easily into my carry-on barely taking up any room at all. The fabric is chic, and well, they offer a spa treatment in the sky – what more could I ask (for this to be more than a figment of my imagination maybe)?
Speaking of my carry-on, Tustings luggage is my newest discovery, and I am currently coveting every piece of the Honeydon collection in its understated, handcrafted glory. It is the epitome of summer. I opt for the orange Encounter duffle because it’ll look best with my golden tan (I don’t tan).
And what would a beach holiday be without plenty of sunscreen, after-sun lotion and new makeup to go with my new, sun-kissed glow? Of course I’ll need something to carry all these products in and what better than the new leopard make-up bag from Mulberry? Quality with a touch of whimsy, sorted.
I believe that two of life’s greatest luxuries are new, perfectly soft T-shirts and cashmere sweaters. Since I will not be in the UK, there is no need for cashmere sweaters in summer, and I opt for my favourite brand of tees. Market makes luxurious tops in a variety of extremely flattering cuts. I get the boyfriend tee in every colour to pair with linen pants, flowy skirts, cut-off jean shorts and a variety of lightweight scarves for the must-have mix and match holiday wardrobe. Maxi dresses are so predictable and at least I can use these as transition pieces for fall.
So if you are on the tube this weekend and you get a whiff of coconut or see me brush sand from my flip-flopped feet, a knowing nod would be much appreciated; a nod that says my holiday isn’t until October either.
