GOURMET Chick is written by Cara Waters, an Australian journalist and blogger who lives in London. The blog is a record of her travels, restaurants, cook books and kitchen adventures.
Where and what did you eat last night?
I was in Paris for the weekend and had a very big lunch so dinner was a picnic on the Eurostar back to London of stinky brie and sharp comte with lots of crackers and quince paste.
Unless you can characterise the cheese, chocolate and frite regime I undertook over a six month period while living in Belgium as a diet, no. I don’t believe in diets.
Are there any food trends that you are currently obsessed with?
Tapas style or ‘small plates’ restaurants are a big trend at the moment and I have to say I really like eating that way as I love sharing food with friends and trying a little bit of everything.
If you could choose to be the guest at any chef’s dinner party who would it be?
Brett Graham from the Ledbury because I love his cooking, and as a fellow Australian in London I am sure we would have a few stories to swap. He could also give me tips for how to fend off rioters with rolling pins.
What’s your signature dish?
My husband calls it ‘meat wrapped in meat’. It’s a beef fillet, rubbed with porcini, butter and herbs then wrapped in prosciutto and roasted.
What kind of eater are you?
Greedy.
When you are not eating, blogging or thinking about where you are going to eat and blog about next, what do you like to do?
I love travelling. Admittedly, this is often an excuse to find new places to eat.
What’s the strangest thing you have ever eaten in a foreign country?
I have eaten witchetty grubs in Australia. They were actually quite nice.
Is there anything that you will not try on a menu?
Endangered fish. I was shocked to discover Blue Fin Tuna on the menu at the sushi restaurant Raku in Las Vegas. They still serve it at Nobu in London as well.
Have you ever tried any extreme diets?
Unless you can characterise the cheese, chocolate and frite regime I undertook over a six month period while living in Belgium as a diet, no. I don’t believe in diets.
Which food blogs do you follow religiously?
I read a lot of blogs, but if I have to pick a few favourites in London I love The London Foodie, Greedy Diva, American in London, A Girl Has to Eat and Eat Like a Girl.
