What's Cooking?

Executive chef Samir Sadekar heads up the Tamarind Group's latest venture, Imli. Nestled in amongst the trendy cafes on Wardour Street, the resturant serves modern Indian tapas in a vibrant, bustling atmosphere. While you may not have the energy to make your way over to Soho tonight, you can try out some of Imli at home with this recipe. Bon apetite!



Serves 4


600g Monkfish



1/10 bunch basil                                                        

3g turmeric                                                    

10g roasted crushed cumin                           

Salt to taste                                                         

4g crushed pepper                                       

40ml oil                                                            

10g rice flour                                                 

20ml lime juice                                                 


Vegetable base

100g broccoli                                                    

80g fine beans                                                

60g red peppers                                            

60g babycorn                                                                                          


Pinenut  sauce                                    

25g garlic                                                       

10g ginger                                                     

8g roasted cumin                                        

70g pine nuts                                                      

1/2 bunch coriander                                                 

100ml oil                                                           

5g crushed black pepper                             

Salt to taste                                                         

10g baby spinach                                          

20ml lime juice                                                



1. Marinate the fish with the listed ingredients in marination.
2. Blend all sauce ingredients.
3. Boil broccoli, fine beans and baby corn, sauté  and red peppers with oil, lemon juice and some salt
4. Heat oil in a pan and place the fish and cook on medium flame. After 3 minutes when the side is lightly browned, turn to the other side and cook.
5. Either serve with plain vegetables or mix the sauce with the vegetables placed on a plate then placed the fish on top.
