Boom Spin Studio Review

Our resident fitness expert, Phil McDougall, is put to the test

Published on November 17th 2011.

Boom Spin Studio Review

BOOM would pass a military cleanliness inspection, is decked out with funky street decor and located in a well-ventilated basement. It’s not done justice by the relatively shabby exterior on the street, but who cares? It’s the quality of the instructor that makes any group training class. Stephano was awesome. No matter whether you’re a hardened cardio Spartan or new to exercise, his level of instruction is clear enough to make you all work to maximum threshold.

In my experience spin instructors often cheat by annoyingly telling you to, ‘turn up the resistance, turn up the resistance, turn up the resistance’, with no regard for those who might be killing themselves already. Stephano, however, delivers structured interval training for all levels, simulating a good hilly ride and perfectly synchronized with uplifting, inoffensive electronic dance music. He also individually corrects your form and riding posture so you get the most out of it. Would I go back for more? In a heartbeat.

Clean? Tick. First class personal, friendly service at reception? Tick. Clean showers? Tick. Good equipment? Tick. Fun and interactive? Tick.

Location: Five minute walk from Old Street station. Showers with soap and plastic bags provided. Small sweat towels provided but bath towels must be rented and water bottles must be purchased.
