SADLY, the sun has set sail to warm up the southern hemisphere and autumn’s winds are back to blow our our socks off during the morning jog. The phenomenon of autumn is often associated with the dread of going back to work or studying, but whilst we’re still brushing the festival dirt off of our boots, National Spa Week has arrived to make the transition into the nine to five a bit easier on all of us.
Taking place from the 19 – 25 September, National Spa Week was set up to build awareness of the many, many health benefits a regular visit to the spa can provide. In the eyes of the Spa Business Association (SpaBA), the organisation behind National Spa Week, including a spa visit in your beauty routine should be part of any active, healthy lifestyle.
And yes, this sounds to good to be true coming from the officials of spa world – don’t we all use the above as an excuse for pampering ourselves? – but let’s all just go with it.
Taking a (hardly) wild guess here, we predict a huge surge in spa appointments coming weekend. London Confidential has made matters easier for you, because we know how difficult it is to choose from the hundreds of spas in London alone. Behold, our top five London spas.
1. The Classic: Sanctuary
12 Floral Street
WC2E 9DH
0870 770 3350
Sanctuary, located in the heart of Covent Garden, offers Londoners a classic spa experience. No contemporary, outrageous treatments here, just proven top of the notch relaxation.
2. The Chinese Experience: Chuan Spa
The Langham
Portland Place
W1B 1JA
020 7636 1000
The Chuan Spa at The Langham bases its treatments on the principles of Chinese medicine. The treatment you’ll receive is based on what element you are, which will be determined after filling out an extensive form.
3. The Perfect Feet Specialist: Margaret Dabbs Sole Spa
7 New Cavendish Street
W1G 8UU
020 7487 5510
The people at Margaret Dabbs are specialised in the one thing Londoners can’t seem to find: pure relaxation. Enter the white cave in the heart of London, give your feet and other body parts a good rest and prepare to leave rejuvenated.
4. The Luxurious One: Berkeley Spa
Berkeley Hotel
Wilton Place
SW1X 7RL
020 7201 1699
Everyone knows that Berkeley Hotel radiates luxury and style. Well, their spa is no difference. Berkeley Spa boasts a rooftop swimming pool, tailor made facials and organic therapies and is the place to go for those willing to dive deep into their pockets.
5. The Stylish Breathtaker: ESPA Life at Corinthia
Corinthia Hotel
Whitehall Place
SW1A 2BD
Claimed to be the leading voice in the next generation of spas, ESPA Life at Corinthia is certainly worth a visit, even if it’s just to see the place. The enormity and grandeur will take your breath away at the spa, which is spread over four floors. However, don’t be mistaken. You will not be a ‘one of so many’ anchovy in a can, every treatment features a personal approach.
National Spa Week takes place from the 19 – 25 throughout the country
