Trevor Sorbie Hampstead Review

Salon director Bree Davie let me in on a hair tip – with a twist

Trevor Sorbie Hampstead Review

TREVOR Sorbie has recently opened his fourth salon in Hampstead, north London. Last week, I was lucky enough to road-test two of their impressive treatments at the bright and beautiful salon on Hampstead High Street; the first a conditioning treatment known as Chronologiste and the second, the Sorbie Style Solution, Sorbie’s answer to the Brazilian blow-dry.

The boutique-style salon is white and airy, with a fresh feel that makes you feel as though you’ve wandered on into heaven, except god is salon director, Bree Davie, and the angels are a team of polite and friendly staff, waiting on your every need. After running the Covent Garden Trevor Sorbie, bottle blonde Bree has now turned her scissors to the heads of Hampstead, and judging by her track record, she already has a wealth of experience neatly tucked under her belt.

The Chronologiste treatment is a real luxury. When applied, it is massaged onto the head for twenty minutes whilst you relax with your feet up on one of their cushioned, reclining chairs. I have to admit, for a good fifteen of these I was out cold. But when I awoke, I was whisked into Bree’s hands for an in-depth hair consultation. She appears to really understand the hair and the way in which each strand naturally falls onto the head. She cuts with an intense precision, twisting the hair to cut away split ends effectively and examining each follicle with the methodology of a forensic scientist (I should mention my hair is extremely thick). My hair looked and felt incredible when she finished, a far cry from the split ended, frizzy mess it was on my way in.

During her ‘examination’, Bree offered an odd piece of expertise that I’d really like to share. The ends of my hair had some remaining dark hair dye on (from my goth days – joke!), which I’ve been trying to get rid off for almost a year now. She recommended I try the Sorbie Style Solution as a healthy alternative to bleaching out the colour. Apparently, when they first started doing the treatment, they were shocked to see that it actually strips the hair of colour. Obviously, for most people this would not be something advantageous, and there are ways around it for those who want to keep their colour of course, but there are also ways of enhancing the colour-stripping properties of the treatment. The proteins force the chemicals from the day off the hair and take their place, straightening, smoothing and conditioning as they go.

After almost three hours, each one more worth it than the last, my hair was shiny, smooth and almost three shades lighter. Whereas a colour strip of peroxide wash would have only caused more damage, this treatment, which, even if you don’t want to remove dye is an amazing one, makes hair stronger, encourages it to dry faster and combats frizz completely. Truly, the best tip I have ever received from a stylist. Thanks, Bree!
