Columbia Road Flower Market

Photographer Kate Berry takes time out to stop and smell the roses

Published on July 7th 2011.

Columbia Road Flower Market

“One of the best ways to spend a sunny Sunday morning in London is to head east to Columbia Road flower market, located in close proximity to Shoreditch, Spitalfields and Brick Lane.

The market itself only sells flowers and plants so of course it looks and smells amazing, and who can fail to be charmed by the flower sellers shouting “get your chrysanths ‘ere love, only a fiver!”?

Running along the street itself are a number of cafés, pubs and independent shops selling everything from vintage furniture to bold graphic prints to old-fashioned sweets. Try the calamari or tiger prawns at Lee’s Seafood about halfway down, or for something more substantial Globe Café does cheap and excellent pizza.

Stick around long enough (it starts winding down around 2pm) and the guys will cut you some very good deals.” Kate Berry, photographer
