Haynes Lanes Collectors Market

Kate Berry heads south to Crystal Palace in search of, well, junk

Published on August 26th 2011.

Haynes Lanes Collectors Market

"If a friend of mine who lives in the area hadn’t told me about this place, I never would have discovered it. Haynes Lanes market in Crystal Palace is… well…bonkers (in a good way).

Located just off the Crystal Palace ‘triangle’ – three roads of junk shops and secondhand furniture, Haynes Lanes is open Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and is literally crammed with stuff. You really need time to dig around this place, but it’s unlike any other market in London. You can find anything, from collections of Smurf figurines to a beefburger CD wallet (?) to a Kriss Kross vinyl (come on, you remember them…).

A lot of it is junk, unless you’re a collector of some obscure thing, but there are hidden gems in there and when you find them, they really are cheap. The stallholders were super-friendly too, they welcomed people taking photographs and those just there to browse and were more than keen to strike up a conversation. Definitely worth a trip down south." — Kate Berry, photographer
