Maltby Street Market

Photographer Kate Berry Captures London's Newest Foodie Heaven

Published on June 30th 2011.

Maltby Street Market

"Maltby Street is a relatively new market nestled in a quiet corner of Bermondsey. Many of the Borough market traders who store their goods in the warehouses here have begun opening them up to the public on a Saturday morning.

The warehouses are spread out and there aren’t many people, but this is what I love about it. It’s like an edited Borough – St John’s bread, Neal’s Yard cheese and Monmouth Coffee all trade from here, in addition to The Kernel, an artisan brewery and Kappacasein, which people (well, me) almost pilgrimage to for the gourmet toasted cheese sandwiches. It’s small, cute and local; the atmosphere is warm and calm and you don’t have to fight through hoards of tourists to get to the grub. Go soon while the charm remains." – Kate Berry, photographer
