“London’s oldest market, Spitalfields, has become an east London destination in its own right. In every way it’s a mix of old and new – split between contemporary fashion and jewellery from independent designers and vintage clothing, homewares, old records and collectors items. It’s this side of things that I really like best, and visiting on a weekday morning feels like a very different experience to a Sunday afternoon (the market is open every day except Fridays and Saturdays). Get there early and you’ll have room to explore without the crowds and can make time to chat with the traders who have been there for years and really mean business.
There isn’t a huge selection of food in the market itself, but around the edges are some of London’s best chain eateries (Leon, Giraffe, Canteen, etc.) where you can grab a bite to eat whilst watching the nearby action.” – Kate Berry, photographer
